Ellard NVQ Assessment

Requests for NVQ training are coming in daily from Ellard’s customers.  If you would like more information or to request an NVQ registration pack please contact the Sales & Marketing team via the training page.

The qualification is to assess the competence of engineers who install, repair and service a range of manual and power operated doors.  NVQ Level 2  is designed to replace the blue CSCS card once it has expired and is required to work on site. It is intended for fitters who have experience in the industry already, and are looking to progress with their careers

Ellard NVQ Assessment Procedure

The engineer must have passed their Health & Safety test (now known as the CITB Health, Safety and Environment Test) to become fully qualified. This can be arranged using the CITB websiteTraining material is available also from their website at http://citbstore.pearsonvue.com/default.asp

This can be completed before or during the NVQ assessment process.

At the start of the NVQ a visit to the company’s premises is required. This is to register and enrol the engineers for the NVQ, ideally this will coincide with an on site observation.

They will need to supply a C.V., N.I. number, previous employment history and give examples of door types installed/serviced or repaired.

A registration fee of £80 made payable to C.I.T.B is required for the registration. This will be collected by the assessor on the first visit. The registration process normally takes 1-2 weeks.

Once this has taken place we need to conduct 2 – 3 on site observations (this will depend on the knowledge of the engineer)

A work based recorder will need to be appointed by the company.

The assessor will need to have a contact to liaise with, regarding attending site with the engineers for the on site observations.

We will collate previous work sheets. This is used as evidence in the engineers file.

After the on site observations are complete we will need to see the engineer again to conduct a recorded interview.

The recorded interview will include items such as site safety, fire extinguishers and on site problems that could occur while installing or servicing/repairing a door.

We will then get the portfolio signed off by the engineer, the work based recorder and Ellard and then it will be forwarded to the Construction Skills for checking and authenticating, after approximately 4 weeks the N.V.Q award will be issued.
