From Data to Action: Ellard's Carbon Footprint Reduction and Sustainable Product Spotlight

In today's rapidly evolving world, the urgency to curb carbon footprints is critical. Beyond an environmental concern, it embodies a collective responsibility toward a sustainable future. As an organisation, we must play a part in not only reducing our emissions but also reporting on them, promoting innovative solutions and driving a global shift towards sustainable practices.

With this in mind, we have been collecting data on our Carbon impact for two years now and we are proud to release our second official Carbon Footprint.

In 2022, Ellard's carbon footprint totalled 4,325 tonnes, with different areas contributing less and more to our emissions. Purchased goods made the most significant contribution at 3,824 tonnes, emphasising the importance of responsible sourcing. This breakdown has guided our efforts in 2023, showing where we can make further strides towards a sustainable future.

This year's calculation of Ellard's carbon footprint has more accurate data compared to last year, a testament to our refined methodologies and increased access to supplier sustainability reports. Our improved calculation methods have fine-tuned our assessment processes, allowing for a more precise evaluation of our environmental impact.

Additionally, the growing number of suppliers providing sustainability reports has significantly contributed to this accuracy by offering direct, reliable data straight from the source. This collaborative effort, both internally through method enhancements and externally through supplier engagement, underscores our commitment to transparency and precision in understanding and mitigating our carbon footprint.

In comparing our 2023 footprint with 2022, Ellard has made substantial strides in reducing its overall carbon footprint by 40%. Significant reductions across various aspects of our operations are evident. We've notably decreased vehicle usage by around  70%, showcasing a shift to optimised transportation practices and electric travel.

Despite marginal increases in certain areas like downstream transport, the overarching trajectory calls attention to Ellard's proactive stride toward a greener, more sustainable business model. The strides we’re making not only highlight our strong environmental compass but also showcase our drive to pioneer and innovate sustainable practices within our industry. As we move into 2024, we wish to act as industry leaders in sustainable and ethical practices, bringing our, customers, suppliers and stakeholders along with us to build a better future.

In 2024, we're diving deep into product development, exploring various avenues to make our offerings more efficient and environmentally friendly. As part of this mission, we're focusing on understanding how our products can serve as green solutions. To kickstart this initiative, we're spotlighting two of our existing products that can be harnessed as carbon-efficient tools.

Ellard’s High-speed door motors

Ellard's high-speed door motors stand out as a sustainable solution through two key aspects:

Energy efficiency: These motors work fast, keeping doors open for less time. This quick action cuts down on energy wasted from air movement and heating or cooling in industrial and commercial areas, saving a lot of energy, carbon emission and money.

Durability and Longevity: Built to last, Ellard's motors are robust and require minimal maintenance, extending their lifespan. Reduced need for replacements or repairs minimises material consumption, waste, and transportation emission

Solar Panels for our battery-powered blinds.

Our solar panels for battery-powered blinds offer sustainable solutions in various ways:

Renewable Energy Source: The solar panels harness clean, renewable energy from the sun to power the battery-operated blinds. Reducing reliance on the production and use of traditional batteries.

Cost Savings: Our solar panels can lead to long-term cost savings by reducing your reliance on batteries. They offer a sustainable, cost-effective solution for both residential and commercial spaces.

Reduced Environmental Impact: Utilising solar energy decreases reliance on fossil fuels, thereby contributing to a decrease in greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution, promoting a cleaner environment.

Making changes both at home and within organisations can significantly impact carbon footprints. Ellard has begun this journey, and we're eager to extend our support to help you navigate these changes. Ellard stands ready to assist you in your journey towards sustainability. Whether it's through innovative products, guidance on energy-efficient solutions, or advocating for environmentally conscious practices, we're committed to supporting and enabling positive changes.
