Meet the ELSD Sectional Door Motor: Ellard’s Latest Upgrade in Motors & Controls
A new generation of sectional door motors, engineered for industrial door applications and built around Ellard’s Promax control panel.
There’s a new drive solution joining the Ellard range.
After extensive development and testing, we’re introducing the ELSD Sectional Door Motor range – a new generation of motors designed specifically for the demands of the commercial and industrial sectional door market.
The ELSD range replaces our existing SD motors, bringing an updated drive solution to our industrial door portfolio while giving installers and door manufacturers a choice of three motor capacities to suit different applications.
Designed, tested and ready for the industrial door market, the ELSD range combines dependable motor performance with the flexibility of Ellard’s Promax Industrial Door Control Panel, creating a complete drive and control solution.
Three Motors. One Flexible Range.
The ELSD range has been developed to give customers a straightforward way to select the right motor for their application, with three torque options covering sectional doors up to 55 m².
ELSD100 – 100 Nm
The ELSD100 is the entry point to the new range, providing a 0.6 kW motor, 80 Nm rated output torque and 100 Nm maximum output torque for sectional doors up to 35 m².
Operating at 24 rpm, with a maximum duty of 30 cycles per hour, it provides a capable solution for a wide range of commercial and industrial sectional door applications.
ELSD120 – 120 Nm
Stepping up in capacity, the ELSD120 delivers 0.9 kW, 80 Nm rated output torque and 120 Nm maximum output torque, making it suitable for sectional doors up to 40 m².
Like the rest of the range, it uses a digital encoder for travel limits, operates at 24 rpm and is rated for up to 30 cycles per hour.
ELSD180 – 180 Nm
At the top of the range, the ELSD180 has been developed for larger and more demanding sectional door applications up to 55 m².
Its 1.5 kW motor delivers 145 Nm rated output torque and up to 180 Nm maximum output torque, providing the additional capacity required for larger doors.

Across the range, the ELSD100 operates at single-phase 220-240V, with the ELSD120 and ELSD180 motors operating from a 3-phase 400V AC supply. All motors use digital encoder travel limits, offer a 24 rpm operating speed and are designed to operate between -20°C and +50°C. All three models feature a chain hoist emergency release.
Built around the Promax
The ELSD range hasn't been developed as simply another motor.
It has been designed to work alongside Ellard's Promax Industrial Door Control Panel, bringing the motor and control system together as a complete Ellard solution.
Each ELSD data sheet specifies the motor for use with Ellard's Promax panel, while the Promax itself is designed for use across Ellard's direct drive, flange mount motor and sectional door motor ranges.
For the installer, that means a system designed around compatibility from the outset – rather than having to build a solution from separate components.

The Promax has been designed around a simple principle: give installers flexibility without making installation unnecessarily complicated.
A Wide Range of Safety Inputs
Promax supports multiple safety technologies, including 8K2 safety edges, optical safety, light curtains and photocell inputs. This gives installers flexibility when specifying the safety equipment required for different door applications.
Easier Setup and Diagnostics
A built-in digital display provides intuitive programming, easier setup and quicker diagnostics, while LED diagnostics assist with general fault finding. Plug-in terminals and glands are also designed to make connections easier on site.
That means less time spent trying to identify faults and more straightforward commissioning for the installer.
Plug In, Rather Than Bolt On
One of the key features of Promax is its integrated plug-in system.
Traffic light, radio receiver, wireless safety edge and loop detector modules can be added through the panel's native plug-in ports, without requiring additional external expansion housings. The result is a cleaner installation with less additional wiring and fewer separate components to accommodate.
Universal encoder compatibility
Promax is also compatible with both major encoder systems – Kostal and Elektromaten.
For installers, this provides greater freedom when selecting motors and can be particularly useful for retrofit installations, where compatibility with existing equipment can be an important consideration.
A New Generation of Ellard Sectional Door Automation
The launch of ELSD marks the next step in Ellard's sectional door offering.
By replacing the SD range with a new, thoroughly tested ELSD platform, we are giving customers a modernised choice of sectional door motors while retaining the flexibility that comes from specifying the motor alongside our Promax control panel.
From the 100 Nm ELSD100, through the 120 Nm ELSD120, to the 180 Nm ELSD180, the range provides a clear progression in capacity for sectional doors from 35 m² through to 55 m².
And with Promax's safety inputs, digital display, integrated plug-in expansion and encoder compatibility, customers get more than a new motor – they get a complete, configurable control solution designed around the operational needs of a high-functioning industrial application.
